Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote this pamphlet in 1848, and few documents of comparable length have shaped the two centuries since to anything like the same degree.
The text sets out a reading of history as class conflict, describes how industrial capitalism reorganised whole societies, states the programme of the communists of the day, and closes with the passage everyone quotes. This Bengali edition makes the argument available in Bangla, which matters for a work that is cited constantly and read in full far less often. Its brevity is part of its usefulness: an afternoon is enough, and the ideas it condenses underpin a great deal of later political and economic writing.
