Tom Gates wants his band, Dog Zombies, to be the greatest in the world, which turns out to be harder than it sounds once school, homework and family get involved.
Liz Pichon writes and draws the series, and the doodles are not decoration: handwriting styles change, drawings interrupt sentences, and lists and diagrams carry as much of the joke as the prose does. That layout is why the books work so well for readers who find dense pages off-putting. The humour comes from ordinary school situations pushed just far enough to be funny.
