Will Cooper narrates this continuation of Slammed, which picks up once the obstacle between him and Layken is gone and the ordinary difficulty of staying together begins. Colleen Hoover hands the perspective to him for the whole book.
Raising his younger brother, holding a household steady and managing a relationship that everyone has opinions about leaves Will with less certainty than the first novel suggested. Doubt, jealousy and old grief surface again, and poetry once more carries the moments these characters cannot speak plainly. The tone is quieter than the debut and the stakes are more domestic.
